# Website Red Flags: 7 Signs Your Current Site Is Costing You Customers

## Answer summary

Seven specific, fixable warning signs your existing site is bleeding leads — written for Irish SMEs, with the 30-second test for each. Seven specific, fixable warning signs your existing site is bleeding leads — written for Irish SMEs, with the 30-second test for each. Practical guidance

## How to use this list

Open your site on your phone over 4G. Run through the seven checks. If three or more apply, your site is genuinely costing you work each month.

## 1. It takes longer than 3 seconds to load

Test: time it on your phone over 4G. Why: every extra second loses ~7% of visitors. Cause: uncompressed images, page-builder bloat, too many tracking scripts.

## 2. Phone number isn't in the header on every page

Test: click into 3 random pages. Visible without scrolling? Why: 60%+ of trade enquiries come by phone.

## 3. No quote-request form above the fold on service pages

Test: open a service page. Without scrolling, can a visitor request a quote? Why: above-the-fold forms convert roughly 40% more.

## 4. Looks broken on mobile

Test: open every important page on your phone. Buttons cut off? Text running off the screen? Why: 78% of Irish search is mobile.

## 5. No mention of the counties or towns you serve

Test: search your site for towns you cover. Why: Google can't rank you for "{service} in {town}" if you never mention the town.

## 6. No reviews displayed on the homepage

Test: real Google reviews with names? Why: sites with displayed reviews convert ~35% better.

## 7. You're paying monthly to rent the site

Test: recurring a fixed monthly feenth "website fee"? Why: over 3 years that's a fixed quote for a site you don't own.

## The 60-second decision

Three or more apply → your site is the bottleneck. Run a free 60-second audit and we'll show you the full picture in writing.

## Fix them in this order

All seven are worth fixing, but they are not worth fixing in the order they are listed. Ranked by return per euro for a typical Irish trade or local service: 1. Phone number in the header. Free. Half an hour of developer time. Usually the single biggest conversion change on a trade site. 2. Speed. Compressing images and removing unused tracking scripts is typically a few hours' work and improves both conversion and Google ranking at once. 3. Town and county names in the copy. Free if you write it yourself. It is the difference between existing and being findable for "service in town" searches. 4. Quote form high on service pages. A few hours. 5. Reviews on the homepage. An hour, once you have reviews worth showing. 6. Mobile layout faults. Anything from an afternoon to a rebuild, depending on how the site was made. 7. Getting off a rental contract. Slowest, because it usually means a new build and a domain transfer, but it ends a recurring cost permanently.

## Repair or rebuild?

A useful rule: if the content is good and the problems are cosmetic or technical, repair. If the structure is wrong — no service pages, no location pages, everything on one scrolling homepage — you are paying to decorate the wrong building. Rebuild when three or more of these are true: the site is more than five years old, it runs on a page builder nobody has updated, there is no page for your main service, it cannot be edited without paying somebody, or it fails on mobile in more than one place.

## Two legal checks worth adding to the list

Both are commonly missed on small Irish business sites:

- Accessibility. The European Accessibility Act applies from June 2025 to a range of services sold to consumers online. Beyond compliance, the basics — real text instead of text baked into images, sufficient colour contrast, labelled form fields, keyboard navigation — measurably improve conversion for everyone.
- Cookie consent. If you load analytics or advertising scripts before the visitor consents, that is a GDPR problem under Irish Data Protection Commission guidance. A banner that only has an "accept" button is not consent. Rejecting must be as easy as accepting.

## Two more red flags we would add

- No proof of who you are. No real photographs, no named person, no address, no company or VAT number. Every one of those is a trust signal, and their absence is the most common reason a good-looking site converts badly.
- A contact form nobody has tested. Send yourself a test enquiry today. We have found silently broken forms on sites whose owners assumed business was simply slow — one of them had been losing every online enquiry for four months.

## What good looks like

Opens in under three seconds on mobile data. Phone number tappable in the header everywhere. A separate page for each service you genuinely sell. The towns you cover named in real sentences, not a keyword list. Three or four real reviews with names. Photographs of your own work. A form that arrives in your inbox in seconds, and an owner who can prove they hold the domain.

## How do I test my own site's speed properly?

Open it on your phone on mobile data rather than home wifi, and count. Then run it through a free page-speed tool for the technical detail. Test a service page, not just the homepage — service pages are usually heavier and are where the enquiry actually happens.

## My site looks fine to me — why would it be losing work?

Because you already know your phone number, your services and where you are. A first-time visitor on a phone, in a hurry, does not. The useful test is to hand your phone to somebody who has never seen the site and ask them to get a quote without help, then watch where they hesitate.

## What does it cost to fix these rather than rebuild?

Individually, most are small jobs — typically a fixed quote to a fixed quote for speed work, header changes and adding location content to existing pages. That is worth doing when the underlying structure is sound. When three or more structural faults are present, the repair bill starts approaching a new build that would not have the faults at all.

## Can I get out of a website rental agreement?

Usually, but read the contract first for notice periods and whether the domain is registered in your name. If the domain is theirs, negotiate its transfer before you announce you are leaving. Keep your content and photos; those are yours, and they will save time and money on the replacement.

## Does any of this matter if I get all my work from Google Business Profile?

Yes, because the profile sends people to the site to decide. The map pack gets you shortlisted; the website is where the shortlist becomes a phone call. A strong profile pointing at a slow site with no reviews and no phone number in the header wastes the visibility you already earned.

## How we decide what to quote for Website Red Flags Irish Businesses

Digital Bridge delivers this work from Gorey Business Park in County Wexford on a fixed written scope — one price, one delivery date — and the client owns the finished work outright. Seven specific, fixable warning signs your existing site is bleeding leads — written for Irish SMEs, with the 30-second test for each. Before a figure is given, four questions are answered in order, and a named person signs the scope off — it is never generated automatically.

- Is this the right job at all? We look at what you already have online, whether the domain and Google Business Profile are in your own name, and what Website Red Flags Irish Businesses customers currently ask you for. If a repair or a single page would solve it, we quote that instead.
- What does the work have to achieve first? The scope is written around one outcome — enquiries, bookings, orders or credibility — and anything else is listed as optional so it can be dropped without renegotiating.
- What will it cost and when will it be live? Page count, content readiness, integrations and whether photography or copy still has to be produced set the price and the date, both fixed in writing before work starts.
- How will people in Website Red Flags Irish Businesses find it afterwards? Local search setup is included in a build; ongoing SEO is a separate optional retainer you can start or stop with notice.

## FAQ

### How much does an AI integration project cost in Ireland?

Digital Bridge scopes AI integration after reviewing the workflow, systems, data, governance and operating responsibility involved. A tailored written proposal is provided after discovery rather than a standard published figure.

### How long does a production AI build take?

A feasibility assessment runs three to five weeks. A baseline production build typically runs eight to twelve weeks from signed scope to go-live, including a seven-day shadow-mode pilot before the system takes live traffic. Multi-system programmes are sequenced into phases so value lands before the full programme completes.

### Can Irish grant funding cover this work?

Often, yes. Enterprise Ireland's Digital Discovery Grant funds up to 80% of an eligible feasibility assessment, and Digital Process Innovation funds up to 50% of eligible implementation costs. Local Enterprise Office schemes cover smaller digital projects. Eligibility is decided by the funder, never by us.

### Who owns the code and the prompts?

You do. Every engagement transfers full source-code and prompt ownership on final payment. Systems run on EU-hosted infrastructure with provider training disabled and a signed data processing agreement. There is no vendor lock-in and no proprietary runtime you have to keep paying us for.
