If your business operates in a Gaeltacht area, Údarás is generally the first agency to approach rather than Enterprise Ireland or the Local Enterprise Office. What Digital Bridge delivers under this scheme
Illustrative net cost applies the published rate (Varies by support — capital, employment and feasibility instruments) to our published engagement bands. It is arithmetic, not an offer of funding.
- Bilingual Irish/English website with proper hreflang — list from €2,500, illustrative net cost Rate and eligibility are decided case by case by Údarás — ask before you commit
- Irish-language content and AI-search visibility — list from €650/mo, illustrative net cost Case-by-case; retainers are rarely covered
Who decides this grant, and what we are responsible for
Údarás na Gaeltachta decides eligibility, approval and payment under this scheme. Digital Bridge supplies the work and the documentation an assessor asks for from the supplier side.
- Digital Bridge does not administer, assess, approve, pay or appeal any grant. Every decision is made by the funding body named on the scheme, under its own published rules.
- This section is general information, not financial, tax, legal or grant-writing advice. It is not an application, a pre-approval, or any form of assurance that you will be funded.
- Scheme rates, ceilings and eligibility change without notice and several supports are administered locally, so your Local Enterprise Office or agency may apply different rules to the ones published here. Confirm everything with the funder in writing before you commit.
- Our questionnaire is a deterministic guide based only on the answers you give. It cannot see your accounts, your sector classification, your state-aid position or your previous awards, so it can suggest a scheme you are ultimately found ineligible for.
- If an application is refused, delayed, reduced or clawed back, our fees for work you have instructed remain payable. We recommend you do not instruct chargeable work until your funder confirms in writing what it will support.
- Costs incurred before a funder receives your application are almost always ineligible. Timing is your responsibility, and we will always tell you when we think you should wait.
How the Údarás na Gaeltachta works in practice
Údarás na Gaeltachta is the development agency for Gaeltacht regions, and its supports operate in a defined geography: the business must be located in a Gaeltacht area. Within that footprint it functions much like Enterprise Ireland and the Local Enterprise Offices combined, offering capital, employment, feasibility, training and property supports for enterprises that sustain employment in Irish-speaking communities. The linguistic and community dimension is genuine rather than decorative — supporting the viability of Gaeltacht areas is the statutory purpose, and projects that contribute to local employment retention are read in that light. Businesses outside the designated areas, however close, are directed elsewhere.
What we do as the supplier on the quote
We build and maintain Irish-language websites, and we do it with human translation and review rather than machine output. For a Gaeltacht business a bilingual site is not a gesture: it is how customers, community and funders expect the business to present itself, and a badly translated Irish version does more harm than an English-only one. Our own site runs an Irish locale for the same reason. Where a project involves Irish-language content we scope the translation and review as a named cost with a named reviewer, rather than burying it in a page count.
What is specific about applying through Údarás na Gaeltachta?
Údarás operates as a regional development agency for the Gaeltacht, and its supports carry an expectation about place and language that other national schemes do not. Applications are read with an eye to what the project does for the local area — employment retained, work brought into the region, the viability of trading from a rural base. A project that could equally be run from anywhere and happens to be located in a Gaeltacht area presents less strongly than one whose location is part of the case. Where the Irish language is relevant to your operation or your customers, say so plainly and specifically rather than gesturing at it. Regional offices differ in emphasis, so speak to the one covering your area before drafting.
Do I have to operate through Irish?
Údarás has a statutory language remit and language use forms part of its assessment, but the supports are commercial instruments aimed at sustaining employment in Gaeltacht regions. Discuss the specifics with the regional office.
How do we know whether our business is in a Gaeltacht area?
Gaeltacht boundaries are legally defined and do not follow county lines. Check your exact location against the official designation with Údarás na Gaeltachta before applying, since proximity to a Gaeltacht area does not confer eligibility.
Source and last review
Scheme parameters checked against Údarás na Gaeltachta (https://udaras.ie/en/) on 2026-08-21. Reviewed quarterly. Next scheduled review: November 2026. Digital Bridge is a supplier, not the awarding body. Eligibility, approval and payment are decided solely by the funding body named on each scheme. Figures below are the published scheme parameters as at the review date shown, and net costs are arithmetic illustrations of the published rate applied to our published prices. Always confirm current rules with the funder before you commit to any spend, because expenditure incurred before an application is received is almost always ineligible.
What is different about running a digital project in a Gaeltacht business?
Two things come up repeatedly in our work. The first is language: if a business trades bilingually, that has to be designed in from the start rather than translated on at the end, because retrofitting Irish onto a site built for English alone produces awkward layouts, broken URL structures and a language switcher nobody can find. Deciding early which pages exist in both languages, and which are genuinely English-only, saves a rebuild. The second is connectivity and location. Gaeltacht regions along the western seaboard include areas where staff work with variable broadband, so systems that assume a constant fast connection perform poorly in daily use and lightweight, offline-tolerant approaches earn their keep. Neither point is exotic, but both are routinely missed by suppliers who scope from a Dublin office and never ask how or where the software will actually be used.
How should a Gaeltacht enterprise sequence a funding application and a build?
Application first, always, and with a written scope rather than an indicative figure. Development agencies of this kind assess a proposal on employment, regional impact and viability, and a proposal that describes outcomes in those terms reads far better than one that describes software features. That means writing about the jobs supported or protected, the markets the business can reach afterwards, and what specifically becomes possible that is not possible now. From our side, we supply a scope and a fixed price that can be attached to the application, and we date it so there is no ambiguity if the assessment takes some weeks. Do not commit to a start date before you have a decision, and do not let a supplier begin work on the assumption of an approval — spending in advance of a decision is the most common way businesses lose eligibility on schemes structured this way.
How we decide what to quote for Udaras Na Gaeltachta Supports
Digital Bridge delivers this work from Gorey Business Park in County Wexford on a fixed written scope — one price, one delivery date — and the client owns the finished work outright. Údarás na Gaeltachta is the State agency responsible for economic development in Gaeltacht regions and offers its own capital, employment, feasibility and innovation supports to businesses located there. Before a figure is given, four questions are answered in order, and a named person signs the scope off — it is never generated automatically.
- Is this the right job at all? We look at what you already have online, whether the domain and Google Business Profile are in your own name, and what Udaras Na Gaeltachta Supports customers currently ask you for. If a repair or a single page would solve it, we quote that instead.
- What does the work have to achieve first? The scope is written around one outcome — enquiries, bookings, orders or credibility — and anything else is listed as optional so it can be dropped without renegotiating.
- What will it cost and when will it be live? Page count, content readiness, integrations and whether photography or copy still has to be produced set the price and the date, both fixed in writing before work starts.
- How will people in Udaras Na Gaeltachta Supports find it afterwards? Local search setup is included in a build; ongoing SEO is a separate optional retainer you can start or stop with notice.
