What does Shopify cost an Irish shop in 2026?

How do you set up payments for an Irish Shopify store?

Shopify Payments launched properly in Ireland in 2024 and is the default choice for most shops: 1.4% + a fixed quote.25 on EU cards, 2.4% + a fixed quote.25 on non-EU cards, and no extra Shopify transaction fee on top. Routing through Stripe instead keeps the same card rates but adds Shopify's own transaction fee of 2%, 1% or 0.5% depending on your plan, so it is only worth doing when you have a specific Stripe-only requirement. Irish VAT and shipping zones — the practical setup

Shopify handles VAT-inclusive pricing and the Irish 23% standard rate, but only once you configure it. You register for VAT after turnover passes a fixed quote. Leaving 23% unset on physical products is the single most common problem we find on Irish Shopify audits, and it usually surfaces at year end with your accountant rather than at checkout. Shipping is the second trap: Shopify's default carrier list is US-first, so An Post and DPD live rates have to be added deliberately. Shopify or owning your store — the honest comparison

Shopify is a subscription plus a cut of every sale. Over three years a typical Irish SME pays roughly thousands in combined subscription and transaction fees, and at the end of it the store still sits on Shopify's infrastructure.
